What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ‘ray-key’) is a Japanese form of alternative medicine called energy healing.

The term comes from the Japanese words ‘rei’ meaning universal, and ‘ki’ which means vital life force energy that flows through all living things.

Reiki was developed by a Japanese Buddhist Monk named Mikao Usui in 1922 and is commonly used in hospitals and hospices around the world.

During a reiki treatment, the practitioner places their hands either directly on you or just above you. Universal Energy is transferred through the palms of the practitioner to encourage emotional or physical healing. A reiki treatment also aims to increase energy levels, promote relaxation and overall wellbeing.
